DESCRIPTION:Many people living with dementia | mate wareware continue to enjoy walking and spending time in their community. Changes in memory\, orientation and judgement can sometimes increase the risk of becoming lost or disoriented.\nGPS watches and tracking devices may provide another layer of support. They can help a person remain active and connected\, while offering reassurance for care partners and whānau.\nJoin Winifred Henderson\, Senior Educator at Dementia New Zealand\, and two guest speakers for a one-hour webinar exploring GPS technology\, tracking devices and the national Safer Walking programme.\n\nWhat the webinar will cover\nThe speakers will discuss:\n\nGPS watches and personal tracking devices\nFeatures to consider when choosing a device\nPractical considerations for introducing and using technology\nThe national Safer Walking programme\nBenefits\, limitations and common questions\nReal-life experiences from families\nQuestions to ask before buying a device\nWays to support safety\, independence and dignity.\n\nThe session will provide practical information to help you consider which options may suit the person you support.\n\nMeet the guest speakers\nLiz HendersonNational Public Safety Manager\, New Zealand Land Search and Rescue\nLiz leads the national Safer Walking initiative\, which supports people who may be at risk of becoming lost.\nThe programme provides practical resources\, community education and partnerships that support both safety and independence.\nJohn BennettFounder\, Guardian Support Services\nFollowing his wife&rsquo\;s diagnosis with Young Onset Alzheimer&rsquo\;s\, John established Guardian Support Services to help families consider technology options suited to their circumstances.\nHe works with families across New Zealand\, sharing practical experience of choosing and using tracking technology in everyday life.\n\nWho should attend?\nThis webinar is suitable for:\n\nCare partners and whānau\nHealth and care professionals\nPeople working in aged care\nPeople supporting someone living with dementia\nAnyone interested in assistive technology for dementia support.\n\n\nCost and registration\nAttendance is free for care partners and whānau.\nThe cost for professionals is $50 +gst and includes a certificate of attendance.\nCan&rsquo\;t attend the live webinar?
