Upcoming Understanding Dementia & How to be Dementia Friendly

 

For 2024 World Alzheimer’s Awareness month, join us on Friday, 20th September at 10am for an Online Talk about ‘Understanding Dementia and ‘How to become a Dementia Friendly Community’ presented by Winifred Henderson, Senior Educator DNZ.

This Talk will give an overview of ‘What is Dementia’, the different types of dementia and how they affect people. What is normal aging, the difference between normal forgetfulness and dementia and the importance of an early diagnosis.

We’ll explore what individual people can do to reduce stigma and increase awareness of dementia and how we can support a person with dementia with everyday actions that improve quality of life.

 

Presenter Profile:

Winifred Henderson – Senior Dementia Educator, Dementia New Zealand (Northern)

Winifred is a Brain Health & Dementia Consultant/Educator. She has completed a Master of Dementia with distinction, which complements her post graduate qualification in Psychology.

She has had first-hand experience with dementia, supporting her Mum as primary care partner for 8 years, while she was living with Winifred and her husband. This experience ignited her passion and curiosity for the condition.

Winifred is passionate about supporting and educating people with dementia, their primary care partners, family and whanau, as well as healthcare professionals, to make the journey through dementia as smooth as possible.

Winifred is full of optimism and energy, which affects everyone, with whom she gets in contact, leaving them feeling more hopeful and supported for the future.
