Younger Onset Programme
Dementia Wellington offers an individualised programme for people with Young Onset Dementia with a dedicated Dementia Advisor and volunteer-led programme. Activities are determined by the participants and includes options for peer support, brain stimulation, and social activities. We partner with health providers to support timely diagnosis with the aim of supporting people with Young Onset Dementia to live full lives in their communities.
Our service includes:
- Monthly half-day sessions for people with Young Onset Dementia run by Dementia Wellington to enhance brain stimulation, physical activity and social connection. Activities include art therapy, music therapy, gardening, movement, a trained companion dog onsite, and shared kai
- Monthly outings for people with Young Onset Dementia facilitated by our volunteer service in partnership with the Dementia Advisor. These run on the last Friday of each month at different locations around the region with activity costs covered for clients
- Individual support, advice and navigation for clients living with and supporting younger onset dementia, which recognises the unique challenges of having dementia at a younger age
- Faciltating connection for people with Young Onset Dementia and their whānau with the aim of peer-led social connection
- An education programme for people with Young Onset Dementia and their whānau that addresses the unique challenges of being diagnosed with dementia at a younger age facilitated by our Clinical Educator
