Your footprint in the future
“The greatest legacy anyone can leave behind is to positively impact the lives of others. Whenever you add value to other people’s lives, you are unknowingly leaving footprints on the sands of time that live on even after your demise.”
Dementia is one of New Zealand’s most significant healthcare challenges. The number of people with dementia in New Zealand is forecast to grow exponentially in the next couple of decades. For every person with dementia there is a wide family, a network of friends, whānau and often colleagues who need information and support. Your gift, of any size, can increase the quality of life of many.
“The people at Dementia Canterbury make sure you don’t feel left alone. They help you connecting with people with the same challenges and they give you confidence and motivation to get out and get active.”

How can you help people affected by dementia in your Will?
Dementia Canterbury recommends talking to a solicitor to write or update your Will. They will require our registered charity number to ensure your gift goes to the right place. Before getting in touch with them, you could start thinking about how you would like to give.
You may want to give a:
- Residual gift
After providing for your family and loved ones, you can gift the remainder of your estate, or part of it, to Dementia Canterbury - Percentage
You could divide your estate between a number of people and charitable organisations by allocating a percentage to each one - Specific gift
This could be a specific sum, jewelry, real estate, shares or anything else you possess.
