Good Companions visit Taupō
Our Good Companions group for people living with young onset dementia recently spent a few days in Taupō on a short break. One of the highlights was a catamaran trip out to the Māori rock carvings on the lake (at Ngātoroirangi Mine Bay), fulfilling a bucket-list moment for one of the group.
What stood out just as much were the quieter moments when the group really enjoyed special bonding, time in the hot pools, sitting together and talking, and enjoying each other’s company. There was plenty of laughter, along with space to share stories and support one another.
In between, it was the simple but meaningful pleasures of everyday outings with friends, like going out for dinner or grabbing a coffee together.
Time away like this gives people a chance to relax, connect and do things at their own pace – reflecting what Good Companions is all about.
